Leaving – Things – Places

7th of december – 14th of december 2024
Performed in Malmö City Library, Malmö Theatre Academy, Grafittihangaren and various places in the city of Malmö
Performed and created by Cecilie Kappel, Per Holmqvist, Konrad Holmqvist
U(P)A has up until this point exclusively been working within the institutions to whom we are associated. Inspired by the fact that two of us now have left our institutions we have explored the concept of “leaving places behind”. Through this exploration we have reflected on leaving pieces of one’s identity, leaving relationships and leaving geographical locations.
Who are we when we decide to or are forced to leave parts of ourselves behind? Who are the U(P)A in the public space and what can we create there? How can we work with the expectations of public spaces?
During these eight days we host a new event every day. Three of these events aretime specific performances to which we would like to meet you as our audiences. The rest of the events are presented during a longer period and will be available for you to interact with at your own pace.
Opening Performance
Space: The Theatre Academy
Time: 7th of December, 19.00
What better place to start our leaving-behind journey than the place that we are leaving. In this performance we will pack our physical and meta-physical luggage and share our thoughts about this process, and finally, head out towards our next arena; the public space.
Navigating
Space: Around the city
Time: The 8th of December
We present to you: signs in public spaces. With signs we want to try and help the audience navigate today’s urban environment.
I expect us to be friends
Space: Beijers Park Café
Time: The 9th of December until the 14th of December
During the last six months we’ve developed the concept of a friendship contract. This is a legal document that states clearly which expectations there are in a friendship with Cecilie Kappel. The audience is free to sign this contract and enter a relationship with Cecilie under the truest of forms. The café is also really cozy, FYI.
Nudging
Space: In the city of Malmö
Time: The 10th of December
Almost everything you see is trying to sell you something and we are curious about what happens if we leave something, somewhere, that doesn’t. We place our roll ups in the public space with negatives of the advertisement we are so used to witnessing.
Sharing the expectations
Place: Malmö City Library
Time: The 11th of December, 18.00
We want to invite you for a performative reading at Stadsbiblioteket. Through poetry, articles and academic texts the reading explores the parts of ourselves, and others, that we leave behind. At the end of the reading there is an open discussion around the reading and the theme of the programme.
Leaving things places
Space: Around the city
Time: From the 12th until the things are found
This day is well explained by the title. We leave things. You are welcome to go treasure hunting!
How to not lose yourself
Space: Interwebs
Time: The 13th of December until the end of days
We are sharing our latest research on how not to lose who you are when you change or evolve. This not-so-scientific article will be heavily subjective and not necessarily true, but we hope that it gives you the reflective space to find some insight for yourself.Closing Performance
Closing Performance
Space: Grafittihangaren
Time: The 14th of December, 17.00
This performance concludes the entire project. We present what we’ve done during the week, conclude what we’ve learned and hopefully we and you will be ready for navigating the public space differently when we are done. This is a special opportunity for us to share with you and hear about your insights. Hope to see you there.
